Overview

This is a full-time 1.0 FTE, 40 hour/week, benefits eligible, non-exempt position working day shift

Minimum hourly rate : $25.46

3 years experience as a Surgerical Tech in an acute care setting required

Demonstrates competency defined (*) by functioning in the scrub role on the operative team in providing family-centered age-appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.The Lead Surgical Technologist ? Main OR performs various tasks and duties to provide technical assistance and support to the surgical staff and physicians both during and in the turnover of surgical procedures. Guides and oversees the activities of other Surgical Technologists within the specialty. Mentors and teaches new Surgical Technologists and RNs rotating through specialty. Understands the procedures being performed and assures that all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available for the case. Responsible for ensuring proper handling of the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures. Assists the registered nurse with delegated circulating duties. Assists with surgical specimens and documentation.

Responsibilities

*1. The Lead Tech for the service is responsible for all duties of the Surgical Technician role. 2. Responsible for coordinating with clinical leader/specialty leader to ensure that specific equipment and supplies for scheduled surgeries are available and maintained.3. Responsible for collaborating with clinical/specialty leader to coordinate and communicate with sales reps for specialty equipment and supplies.4. Fully knowledgeable with all specialty instrument sets specific to the specialty.5. Must be able to effectively communicate and accommodate surgeons and patient specific needs for their procedures.6. Collaborates with clinical leader/specialty leader to maintain surgeon?s preference cards.7. Acts as a resource person for staff who may have service related questions.8. Responsible for working with clinical leader/specialty leader to ensure that par levels of supplies and equipment is adequately maintained.9. Responsible for maintaining effective communication with central sterile processing about upcoming conflicts with instruments and supplies.10. Assists with tracking and maintaining surgeon?s specialty instruments. (Ex: replacements and other requests).11. Precepts new surgical technologist?s or RNs rotating through specialty (within the scrub role).12. Coordinates staffing schedule with clinical leader/specialty leader to assure that staff have a resource available at all times.13. Takes specialty call (if applicable for the service).14. Role models outstanding patient care, customer service, teamwork and professionalism at all times.15. Must be willing to work 4 days per week.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED1. High school graduate.2. Satisfactory completion of an approved surgical Technology program (prefer Associates degree).3. Minimum three years? experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting.4. Has knowledge of surgical equipment, positioning aides and video endoscopy equipment.5. Requires advanced knowledge of surgical instruments.6. Certification in Surgical Technology preferred.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS1. Must be able to see, hear, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation with little or no difficulty. 2. Must be able to stand a minimum of 5 hours consecutively, frequently.3. Must be able to independently lift up to 25 lbs. frequently.4. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
